SPECIAL CONFERENCE

Tianjin Model United Nations

Head Chair

Anna Metz (head)

Anna Metz

Esteemed delegates and directors, my name is Anna Metz, and it is my utmost honor to serve as the President of the Special Conference at TIANMUN VII. I have had the opportunity to be part of a total of 10 conferences as a delegate, deputy chair to the Security Council,  judge to the ICC and advocate to the ICJ. My most fundamental piece of advice to all delegates is to thoroughly research your issue, as well as your country’s stance to it. Use your diplomacy, knowledge and creativity to solve the issues at hand and don’t be afraid to speak up or make an unexpected mistake, it’s part of the learning process! I look forward to meeting and working with everyone!

Greetings!

My name is Annie Jang, currently a junior attending the International School of Qingdao. It is an honor to serve as your deputy chair of the Special Conference.

I would like to encourage all the delegates to be effective speakers and contribute to the common cause of the conference. I realize for some of you this conference would be the first step in the MUN career which could make you feel self-conscious and hesitant to speak in front of the huge audience. I’ve experienced the same situation three years ago when I firstly engaged in TIANMUN 2017 as a delegate at Special Conference. However, after my first speech, I’ve gradually developed confidence and courage required for the MUN participants.

Therefore, one advice I would like to give all the delegates is to be courageous and to not be afraid of making speeches and POIs. Regardless of whether long or short term your solutions are, voice them out for a possibly positive influence on the world’s most heated issues. I’m looking forward to a productive and efficient debate actively taken by all the delegates!

Romir Williams

Hi! My name is Romir Williams and I am extremely grateful to be able to serve as Deputy Chair at this year’s TIANMUN conference. With such captivating issues to discuss, Special Conference has always been one of my favourite committees. However, initially I was very intimidated by it. Many of the delegates were much more experienced than me and the committee was very large as well, delivering an opening speech seemed almost impossible to me. But after I saw how well-received my speech was by other delegates, I was confident enough to return to the podium after that. Remember delegates, MUN is meant for collaboration, your committee is there to help you. Don’t be afraid to stand out, be afraid that you won’t get to participate in the amazing experience that is MUN.

I look forward to witnessing the fruitful debate to come and meet all the amazing people involved in the conference.
