Hello, Everyone!

My name is Paula Kim, currently a junior attending the International School of Qingdao. TIANMUN 2017 will be my 10th MUN conference, 3rdconference as a chair, and 2nd TIANMUN.

To start with, I would categorize MUN as a social activity rather than an academic one, as MUN is all about compromising with each other and cooperating, although the process might be rough sometimes. Since Security Council is a small but a powerful committee, I hope this experience could enhance your debating skills as well as your understanding of the world.

It is an honor for me to serve as the deputy chair of the Security Council this year. As we are dealing with significant yet sophisticated issues, the research process will be difficult, therefore troubling the delegates. I, however, hope to see delegates striving to understand the issues and finding delight in doing so. Furthermore, I wish that challenging topics will play the role of an energizer rather than a discourager. Remember, never let the pressure and anxiety prevent you from taking an action! I am very excited to see a fruitful debate where delegates exchange realistic, plausible, and innovative solutions with one other in a respectful manner.

See you in the conference!
